Question: What does forgiveness mean?

Are you carrying around a wound? For your own sake, you must forgive the person who offended you. Forgiveness is a beautiful gift from God, but many of us don’t really understand that forgiveness simply means to release, set free. When you don’t forgive you are like a bird locked in a cage. You need to be released in order to be all God designed you to be. Forgive that person holding you captive—not because they’ve humbled themselves and asked you to, not because they deserve it—but because you deserve it.

This is so true. I remember an incident where I had animosity towards a person I had not seen for years. When I heard that person name, I did not have fond memories. I realized then I needed to forgive that person, and asked the Lord to forgive me for not forgiving that person. I immediately started praying blessing on that person and continue till this day. I remember a pastor saying that if you keep that unforgiveness in you, it is like wasted energy. Because the person you are upset with does not even know, and living a life of joy!!! It is true freedom when you forgive and let go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
