Adjunct Professor at Drew University (Madison, NJ)

Few understand the world of senior executives. It involves everything from remaining relevant in your community and breaking through growth plateaus to developing healthy church systems, fundraising, and managing your family and personal life.

After 25 years in the trenches as an executive level lead pastor, I can attest to having experienced everything you’re going through to some degree or another. Without running down the laundry list of storms I’ve weathered in growing a 8,000-member church, suffice it to say, my faith has been tried, trampled, and at times tortured. Yet the faithfulness of God has kept me and He will also keep you. Sadly, many of our colleagues have fallen by the wayside—plagued by rampant financial inefficiencies, moral failure, church splits, ineffective vision casting, and more.

I offer a wide range of solutions designed to support senior/lead pastors and members of their senior executive management team (executive pastors, chief of staff, senior associates) in developing healthy organizations, experience congregational growth, and increase the effectiveness of your church/organization.

The David Ireland Executive Coaching Program offers senior executive leaders a dedicated monthly group training and coaching space where they can receive the encouragement, support, and guidance needed to effectively manage specific ministry issues. By adding coaching to your repertoire of tools, you will experience:

  • Clarification of your organization’s vision and mission
  • Breakthroughs in church growth barriers
  • Redesign of ineffective operations and processes
  • Increase in congregational giving and its value of stewardship
  • Elimination of fiduciary waste and excess
  • Governance and board development
  • Crisis management and problem solving techniques
  • Organizational Assessment…and more

The Coaching Process

DDI_1I offer executive coaching through a process that occurs “on the court” of your day-to-day problem-solving needs. How? Through a prescribed series of virtual coaching sessions—conveniently conducted by phone—together we will create winning outcomes leveraging your professional strengths and fortifying any identified areas of deficiency.

Unlike a counselor or mentor—who typically tell clients what to do—coaching is more like an excavating tool that uncovers the courage, power, and greatness hidden within you. The process involves a give and take of information related to your specific issues blended with the coach’s skilled query for an appropriate solution that you discover with his or her help.

As you know, confidentiality is crucial in the life of a lead pastor and organizational executive. We are called to safeguard the personal information we receive from our congregants. But, when it comes to addressing our own personal struggles, pastors rarely feel they can trust others. As part of the David Ireland Coaching Program, every participant is required to sign a confidentiality agreement to ensure adherence to my requirement that the identities and information of group members are kept private.  That agreement will be included in your orientation package once your application to participate is approved.

Your investment for the nine-month program is $400 each month.  You and your organization will quickly experience the benefit of this investment after the first session.  The other benefit of virtual coaching is that it eliminates the time and expense of travel, lodging, and lost opportunity to engage in key organization and family activities.

New Book Release

One in Christ: Bridging Racial & Cultural Divides

As America grows increasingly brown, the Church must be equipped to interact on a cross-cultural level organically. It cannot be mandated like civil rights laws or equal employment requirements. Racial reconciliation must naturally emanate from us just like little children learn to walk and talk. Youngsters naturally want to get up and move about on both feet. As their little chubby legs grow stronger, their eagerness to stand upright also grows. To speed the process along, parents coach, coax, and encourage the natural practice. This same practice is what Dr. Ireland does in One in Christ in the arena of diversity.

Warmth, regard, and respect emanated from Jesus toward others—all others. Part of His allure was the fact He was comfortable in His own skin. That made others who approached Him comfortable in their skin. This quality fuels the deconstruction of walls—tearing down the barriers that keep us apart. The beauty is, this quality can be learned. In fact, at the cellular structure of Christianity is the ability to be cross-cultural. The Great Commission proclaims it. Jesus said, “Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19). The word nation is the Greek word ethnos, where we derive the English word ethnic. In essence, the last charge Jesus gave His followers was to become cross-cultural ambassadors. This is not optional! We must become racially accommodating.
